Seventh St. closed May 19 in Lafayette

The following is a news release from the Lafayette Department of Traffic and Transportation:

Tom Carroll, the Director of the Public Works Department, has announced the closure of Seventh Street between the SW Evangeline Thruway and S. Chestnut Street on Sunday, May 19 from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. for LUS Wastewater Collection to make sewerage infrastructure repairs.

Detour routes will be made available.

Hurricane Expo set Saturday at Prien Lake Mall

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC)- KPLC 7 Stormteam meteorologists will be on site with the National Weather Service and Entergy for this year's Hurricane Expo at the Prien Lake Mall on Saturday.

The purpose of the expo is to provide information about evacuations, warning systems and as a bonus, the team will be giving away door prizes that will help residents stay prepared during cases of severe weather and emergencies.

Staying prepared and being informed is one of the most important pieces of knowledge for the public as we move forward this season.

25th Annual Cajun Heartland State Fair comes to the Cajundome May 23

The 25th Annual Cajun Heartland State Fair will be held Thursday, May 23 through Sunday, June 2 at the Cajundome in Lafayette. The fair opens at 5 p.m. on weekdays and at noon on weekends. Admission is free, and parking is $10 per vehicle.

Advance tickets for rides are available at the Cajundome Box Office through May 24.

Performers at the festival will include Wayne Toups and Zydecajun, Geno Delafose and the French Rockin' Boogie, and Bag of Donuts. For a schedule of performances, visit http://www.cajundome.com/grandstand.aspx.

Louisiana is once again participating in national Safe Boating Week, scheduled for May 18-24.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) remids boaters to be safe, responsible and knowledgeable while on the water during this safe boating week. Safe Boating Week is a time for all boaters to inspect their vessels to ensure that all required safety equipment is on board and that vessels are in good, working condition.

Blake Miller & the Vermilion Playboys will perform on Saturday, May 18 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Liberty Theatre, located at 200 West Park Ave. in Eunice. The performance is being presented as part of the “Rendez-vous des Cajuns" Cajun Music Radio & TV Show.

Tickets go on sale Saturday at 4 p.m. at the ticket window of the Liberty Theater. Tickets are $5 and general admission seating.

The Louisiana State Police held an awards ceremony today, Thursday, May 16, to honor Troopers, officers from various statewide law enforcement and first responder agencies, and civilians for their extraordinary efforts over the past year.

The ceremony was held at 1 p.m. in the Louisiana State Police Training Academy Auditorium on Independence Blvd. in Baton Rouge.
