Lafayette PD respond to area campuses | News

The following is a news release from the Lafayette Police Department:
At approximately 8:10 a.m. this morning, Lafayette Police were contacted by administrators at Alice Boucher Elementary School regarding a knife being brought onto campus. A student informed a staff member at the school that a child under the age of 10 had carried a knife onto campus in a book sack.
Administrators located the student and recovered the knife immediately. The knife, which had a 7” blade, was turned over to Police. The child was turned over to the parents. School officials are handling the incident.
At approximately 9:10 a.m., Lafayette Police working at the N. P. Moss Annex were alerted by the staff of a suspect on campus with a handgun. The staff member advised that he observed a black male wearing khaki pants, a white hooded sweat shirt and carrying a handgun walking on campus. Upon being seen, the suspect fled the area by climbing into a late model blue Chevrolet pickup truck. The campus was placed on lock down. Officers are currently attempting to identify the suspect.
The campus has returned to normal operations with School Resource Officers present. Police are asking anyone with information about the incident or the identity of the suspect to contact Lafayette Police or Crime Stoppers at 232-TIPS.
